So you may have figured out by now that I’m not “just” a tarot reader—I call myself a witch and I practice my craft daily. I like to say I’m a literary witch—words are power and stories are spells. But I’m also what a lot of folks call a kitchen witch.
What is a kitchen witch?
I like to say it’s about adding the sparkle of magick to everyday life. Have you noticed that the photos I use often have sparkly filters added to them? That’s how I like to imagine it—sparkles! Sparkles everywhere!
Don’t get me wrong—I love a good, dark, witchy emo atmosphere. I’m super-close friends with my shadow side, adore snake imagery (just the imagery; snakes in person?! EEP!), wear a lot of black clothes, and have scattered skulls throughout my house. But I really am more of a sparkles and unicorns type of witch.
And my favorite way of living the sparkly life is through kitchen witchery. Doesn’t matter what the mundane chore around my house is, I’m gonna find a way to magick it up. Budgeting? Light a green candle and after the budget is figured out, write the goal on a bay leaf and burn in the flame. Sweeping? Sweep all the stale energy or other energy that no longer serves me out of house. Cooking? Hell yeah!!!! So many magickal choices to make!
Another one of my favorite things to do is TEACH. I’m a writing instructor for college first-years and I LOVE it.
So I’m SUPER excited that I get to combine two of my favorite things: I get to TEACH a KITCHEN WITCHERY 101 course in two weeks!! Yahoo!!
If you are in Tucson, sign up for the workshop. It’ll be on Sunday, Feb. 17, from 2-4pm at The Ninth House shop. Check out the Facebook event page for goodies leading up to the event, including info on casting spells and what books are on a kitchen witch’s shelf. It’s gonna be a BLAST.
